The VP of Risk Management is responsible for maintaining risk management best practices to protect company assets and minimize losses. They will identify and evaluate operational risks and implement and monitor ongoing risk management practices, in addition to managing all insurance programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Engage all PS&E departments to determine how risk management practices can be implemented to achieve positive financial operational results.
• Review contracts and agreements, structure insurance that protects the company from a risk transfer perspective while balancing the business side of the deal, and engage in discussions and/or negotiations with risk management counterparts from a third party to finalize the contractual relationship to the satisfaction of both parties.
• For ongoing/long term contracts, manage third party insurance monitoring to ensure that the company requirements are met, solve insurance issues that arise, and manage compliance. Work with third-party vendors to ensure compliance with the agreements.
• Review event and short-term contracts, certificates of insurance against the contract for compliance and provide direction for any exceptions based on the overall business deal.
• Understand the current responsibilities associated with the operation of the facility that include (but are not limited to) maintenance, security, contractors (short and long term), restaurant, catering operations, and parking. Work with operations to understand and advise on risk related issues.
• Understand company exposures of IT/Cyber, including exposures of websites, marketing initiatives, apps, employee records, credit cards sales, and any data stored on the company’s systems. Review exposures that are retained and included in-house versus those outsourced to third parties.
• Work with Security and Operations to effectively manage the safety and loss control programs.
• Work with Security team to evaluate incidents, report writing, trends and frequency issues to ensure consistent incident reporting and utilization of the security management system.
• Manage all carrier loss control site visits, provide recommendations and feedback to the appropriate department, and follow up for finalization of recommendations. Communicate with the carrier to achieve compliance.
• Understand any policies and procedures that are currently in place for employment practices, safety, loss control, building operations, etc.
• Update and maintain the Driver Safety Policy.
• Work with Security team to ensure Defensive Driver Training is conducted for those who qualify under the Driver Safety Policy.
• Coordinate all insurance placements. In advance of each renewal, work with the respective brokers to complete applications, review existing coverage for improvement, and negotiate the best possible pricing while keeping the best possible terms and conditions in place. During the policy term, address any issues, coordinate endorsements, request certificates of insurance, and discuss any contractual exposures as a result of new contracts/agreements.
• Establish annual budgets for insurance premiums.
• Review all general liability incidents and report appropriately to the carrier. Work with carrier’s adjuster through conclusion of any claim. Understand and use ESIS (claims management system) to monitor and track claims, generate reports.
• Understand and use LineSlip for policy and risk management reporting.
• Oversee workers’ compensation claims and review monthly loss runs to determine financial impact to company, reviewing patterns and issues that may warrant safety training.
• Schedule periodic meetings with the brokers as necessary to discuss coverage, claims or any new exposures.
• Work with the Security team to achieve Safety Act Certification and maintenance of designation once awarded.
• Report results of duties and responsibilities to EVP/Chief Legal Officer or other Executive Management as required.
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Strong knowledge of commercial insurance, risk management and loss control principles. Knowledge of claims handling and safety programs is required.
• Strong communication, organizational and customer service skills.
• Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and email.
• Ability to accomplish tasks accurately within tight timelines.
• Ability to work events (which may include nights, weekends, and potentially holidays) for observation of loss control operations, risk management/safety practices or claims investigations.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in business, risk management or related field, plus ten years of experience in the field of risk management.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret instructions and reports. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from owners, managers, clients, customers, business related third parties and the general public.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret directions and data.
